70歲牙醫陳景祥，兩年前騎車摔倒至骨科就醫後，發現骨密度相當差，且長期有貧血症狀，轉診至血液腫瘤科後，被確診罹患多發性骨髓瘤。陳景祥表示，一直以來都維持運動習慣，作息也正常，但血色素偏低，後來抱孫女時感覺到身體疼痛。
陳景祥說，「我學醫的，但以前只聽過這個名詞。」得病後身體狀況很差，動了脊椎手術後，需要靠背架支撐才能站立，穿了半年，流汗時一天要換三件衣服。孫女成了最好的禮物，幾乎是一起學走路、一起學習，支撐自己度過難關。
台大醫院血液腫瘤科醫師黃聖懿表示，多發性骨髓瘤是一種罕見癌症，骨髓裡的漿細胞，即免疫系統中負責產生抗體的重要細胞，癌化後在骨髓中不斷複製增生，形成腫瘤。
黃聖懿指出，多發性骨髓瘤好發在65至70歲的老年族群，男女比近二比一，可說是「老男人的癌症」。有四種典型症狀，骨痛、貧血、尿液泡泡多和高血鈣，這些常和生理性疾病混淆在一起，例如老人家腰酸背痛會先去診所等處看骨科，拖到病情惡化後才就醫詳細檢查。
黃聖懿表示，目前有藥物治療，年輕病友會做造血幹細胞移植，年紀大的病友可藉由標靶藥物組合治療，存活期從過去的兩年半延長至五到七年，甚至有四分之一超過十年，死亡率逐漸下降。因此，鼓勵病友積極治療，正向面對疾病，但較困難的是患者在病情穩定後，如何自我照顧和恢復社會功能。
